When I first heard the terms "blog" and "blogging", to be honest, I was turned off by them. The slang flavor of the terms gave the impression that it was the domain of egomaniacal script kiddies. I had no problem with the term "web logging", but why "blogging"? It just didn't roll naturally off the tongue. Over time, I've gotten mostly used to it, but I get the impression that when I talk to less tech-savvy people about it, it still sounds like geek-speak to them. How long will it be till "blog" starts sounding like a real word to the general populous?

Large corporations are taking up blogging, so maybe it doesn't sound as unprofessional to everyone else as it does to me. But has the name slowed its adoption by businesses? And will it continue to reduce blogging in smaller companies without techies who can see beyond the name to the value of weblogs?

I guess it's a little late to be worrying about the issue--it's hard to imagine anything displacing the existing terminology now. I guess the best strategy may be to use the full term "weblogging" and hope that helps.
