Some methods of reducing spam require the use of multiple email addresses. Throwaway addresses, which are created as needed for temporary purposes, and deleted when they start getting spam, have been discussed here in the past. Another use of multiple addresses is to set different levels of filtering on each. Give your friends and family a pure-whitelist address, one which only accepts email from people who's addresses are on a whitelist. All other email sent to that address is either bounced or quarantined till you approve or reject the new address. Best may be to bounce all mail from unknown addresses. For a wider group, you could have another address that quarantines all email from unknown addresses till accepted or rejected. If you need to publish an address publicly, you could use aggressive filtering, or probably better, quarantine emails sent to this address from unknown senders till the sender enters a code in a form on your website to release it from quarantine. The code is emailed to them in response to the receipt of their email. Beyond that, make another address and use it with a spam filter as appropriate for your needs.
