If you've ever scooped cold, hard ice cream with a regular spoon, you're probably familiar with the potential for bending the spoon. Today's blog entry is a public service announcement to help the ice cream eaters of the world avoid this problem.

When scooping ice cream with a regular spoon, you can either let the ice cream sit out long enough that it softens a little, or use proper scooping technique as follows:

1) Hold the spoon near the base of the handle to reduce the probability of applying excessive torque to bent part of the handle

2) Insert the spoon straight into the ice cream

3) Only after the spoon has been inserted should you apply leverage to separate the scoop from the ice cream that remains in the container

By following these simple guidelines, you will enjoy many years of ice cream eating with the same spoon.
