Listening to Talk of the Nation address the issue of religion in schools today, I wondered what those who oppose religion in schools would say if a church were established that taught evolution. Would they then opposing the teaching of evolution in schools? If not, how would they justify the exception? By saying that the theory came first? Who's to say that teachings of existing religions don't pre-date the religions? By saying that there's scientific support for evolution? How about the scientific problems that face it? What about religious beliefs that mesh with scientific evidence? What about science-based clarifications of religious beliefs?

Ultimately, such issues are so polarized, that I don't expect appeals to logic to succeed in resolving them either way.
