Web guru Jeffrey Zeldman posted an entry in his blog today titled Architecture Digest vs. This Old House. It's content was interesting, but not directly related to the Mental Arc it sparked. That came from the title.

"This Old Website": a web-program (as in "television program", not "computer program") where a few designers get together and give some aging website a facelift. "Extreme Website Makeover" is another possible name.

Now I can't imagine the designers wanting to do all the grunt work of converting an entire site over to a new look, nor would it be a good use of their time. So what they'll do is overhaul the homepage and create a template for the rest of the site (or at least major portions of it). They'll also convert a few pages over to the template, but not every page (unless perhaps the site already uses a template, and only need a template overhaul). The This Old Website Website (that doesn't look grammatical, but it is!@ Whee!) would feature screen shots or copies of before and after pages along with commentary about what was done, how and why.
